Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber turned out to be an unexpected boon for mobile privacy app FlexiSHIELD (http://www.flexispy.com/flexishield-cloaking-callmanager-keylock.htm) when his latest twitter prank highlighted the need for protection of teenâ??s mobiles to anxious parents worldwide.
The story begins last Saturday when Bieber's Twitter account suddenly flashed the following message: "everyone call me 248-XXX-XXXX :) or text". The number, thus exposed to Bieberâ??s army of 4.5M followers, belongs to a Detroit teen named Kevin Kristopik, whom Bieber targeted for revenge after Kritopik allegedly hacked one of Justinâ??s friendâ??s Twitter accounts & got hold of Justinâ??s real phone number. Kristopik posted a Youtube video of his phone receiving thousands of texts & calls from fervent Bieber fans eager to contact their idol. His parents however were less pleased with their sonâ??s instantaneous popularity by proxy, & Kritopikâ??s Twitter account has since been deleted.
The story was published by most major gossip sites on Monday morning & brought about a wave of interest in mobile phone privacy protection applications from thousands of teenâ??s parents who suddenly realized their child may be at risk from mobile menaces theyâ??d never considered before.
The impact on cell phone privacy app FlexiSHIELDâ??s sales was instantaneous reports Marc Harris, the companyâ??s marketing manager: â??We sold more applications today than we have since the beginning of the year. Itâ??s kind of ironic that a prank played by a 16 year old celebrity has done more to promote awareness with parents than all the efforts put in by advocacy groups & businesses like our ownâ?.
FlexiSHIELD keeps teens' & kids' cell phones safe by enabling both parents & their children to setup pre-approved filters & screens preventing unknown or unwanted communications to the cell phone.
Harris says: â??Everybody knows with teens now at the forefront of the mobile revolution the need for this type of protection is only going to increase. According to a recent study (http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2010/Teens-and-Mobile-Phones/Chapter-5/The-cell-phone-has-become-a-new-venue-for-harassment-and-bullying-of-teens.aspx?r=1) from the Pew Internet & American Life Project over one in four teens has already suffered some form of cell phone harassment. Sadly Bieberâ??s prank is actually one of the least frightening stories weâ??ve heard. The worst oneâ??s ended with kidâ??s having their lives completely ruined. A number of publicized cases even went so far as to end with tragic suicides. Itâ??s so sad when one considers how easily these cases could have been avoided. A simple cell phone application installed on the kidâ??s phones guarantees their complete protection from these malicious attacksâ?
