Makara Expands their Platform as a Service to Support memcached and the Zend Framework
Redwood City, CA (PRWEB) October 19, 2010
Makaraâ?¢, a leading provider of deployment and management solutions for PHP and Java applications in the cloud, today announced version 1.1 of the Makara Cloud Application Platform with built-in support for memcached and Zend Framework. With Makara, organizations can quickly deploy, manage, monitor and scale their applications on both public and private clouds, such as Amazon EC2 or VMWare without having to modify a single line of application code. This update offers the ability to easily configure and deploy memcached nodes as part of an applicationâ??s complete software stack. Memcached is a distributed, open-source caching layer used by the majority of the largest web properties in the world like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. With support for memcached now baked into the Makara Cloud Application Platform, it just got even easier to on board highly scalable LAMP-based applications to the cloud. Also featured in this release is native support for the Zend Framework. This means PHP developers employing the Zend Framework to develop applications more efficiently. can also speed their deployment to cloud with integrated support from Makara.
Makara will be demonstrating this new release in a free webinar next week on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 10am Pacific/1pm Eastern entitled, "Deploying Scalable PHP and memcached Applications in Cloud.â? Register for this webinar here.
Makara recently assisted one of Germanyâ??s leading PHP service providers by helping them quickly migrate their applications to Amazon EC2 to deal with an impending surge in traffic to their site after a new release. â??Makara allowed us to scale our website quickly,â? said Albrecht Günther, General Manager at Mayflower GmbH. â??This turned out to be a surprisingly easy process and we were able to focus on simply running our pre-existing apps in the cloud rather than dealing with all the time-consuming details of clustering, management, and monitoring.â?
"Last week Makara was met with rave reviews from the PHP community at the International PHP Conference in Germany where we ran a workshop in which many developers on-boarded their applications to cloud for the first time," said Issac Roth, Makara CEO, "Almost all developers dream that their applications will one day become wildly popular. Makara's Cloud Application Platform with built-in auto-scaling makes it easy to manage just such a success."

Why Makara?
Developers and system administrators have quickly realized that provisioning a virtual server and deploying an application is only the beginning in a series of ongoing tasks that will need to be performed in order to effectively manage an application in the cloud. These tasks include:
Auto-Scaling of Clusters
Load Balancing
Configuration Management and Application Rollbacks
Log Analysis
Real-time and Historical Performance Monitoring
"Makara's Cloud Application Platform differentiates itself by being the only PaaS that currently supports both Enterprise and Web applications built with Java EE or PHP," said Rachel Chalmers, Research Director, Infrastructure Management of 451 Group. "Organizations developing web applications are looking for value beyond the IaaS layer. What is becoming increasingly important is a PaaS platform that can manage the deployment, monitoring and auto-scaling of applications in the cloud." According to a recent Gartner® report entitled â??Cool Vendors in Cloud Management, 2010â??, published March 31, 2010, it lists Makara as one of the vendors to watch in this market.
